  • This Professor is a Genius

Today I received this email from my father, and it does present a very good point:

Subject: This Professor is a Genius!!

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D!
    No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

**If somebody is unable to understand THIS explanation, I have serious doubts about their ability to even function in society, much less run our country!  As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."**

Feel free to leave any thoughts, but no attacks.

  • Oh, Michael Bay...

Horror movies were never his best field, as evident in February's Friday the 13th remake.  Clearly he's willing to try again, but this time with another horror icon: Freddy Krueger.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB8XYZDu5zs

I'm a skeptic when it comes to movie remakes, but this one leaves me unsure of a final verdict.  Jackie Earl Haley takes the main role of Mr. Krueger and has earned the support from the original, Robert Englund himself.  Gone is the dead baby humor from the originals in favor of a more sinister Nightmare.  In addition, Bay portrays Krueger as a victim rather than nail into the audience's heads that the man is evil and guilty for his actions.  However, the knife claw looks awesome despite Freddy looking like a burned Voldemort with a nose.

What do you guys think?  Could this remake do justice to the original, or condemn the franchise like all remakes are known for doing?  Share your thoughts.

And with that, I end this post with a joke:
"If Freddy's victims looked up and shouted 'Save us!', what would he whisper?"
    "'NO.'"

    Superheroes+Basterds=Good Week

After my regular orthodontist appointment, I finally got to reunite with my favorite superheroes when I picked up my copy of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2.  The last time I saw these heroes was three years ago when the first Ultimate Alliance came out, so it was good to see new and old faces.  Unfortunately, I'm still stuck in the current/last-gen console era, so I've got for the PS2.  Aside from it's so-so graphics, the game is still fun and even better than the first.

Before returning to campus life, I got the chance to see Quentin Taratino's latest work, Inglourious Basterds.  I was amused by it and found it to be as ludicrously violent as Kill Bill, but with some more humor thrown into it.  If you like Taratino's work, you might enjoy the Basterds.

How has your week been so far?  Comment in the box below!

  • Dorm Life

Yesterday was officially my first day of college at Arizona State University.  I'm living on campus but come home during the weekends (for now; this is subject to change later in the year).  I have a cool roommate, Andrew, and an awesome peer advisor, Tom (who is directly across the hall from my dorm); he occassionally drops by my dorm to say hi, see what's up, or invite me over to his dorm for some quality gaming time.

ASU is a college so big it had to be divided up into four separate campuses.  I'm enrolled in the Tempe campus with my major in bioengineering.  My schedule has been set up and organized nicely; my shortest days are Tuesdays and Fridays (1/2 classes each) with Thursdays being my longest (4 classes).  My online presence may be cut short as the year progresses but for now, you'll still see me quite a bit online.
